Anne Hathaway is elegantly expressed as Kym, straight talking black sheep on furlough from rehab to attend his sisters wedding. The defection of Scrappy young turk Demme indie to mainstream Hollywood disappointed many: its long descent in March from the wise and unpredictable Something Wild prudence boredom of Philadelphia. But after a decade of honing a half his ability as a documentarian, the director is back where he belongs with a free, fiercely independent comedy drama. The first half is structured as a series of blazing rows, one by one as the family members lose their patience and whip on reckless Kym. The second half great day means the old wounds healing as forgiveness wins grudge.
